What if Casino Movies Were Remade with a Twist?

There have been plenty of movies about casinos and gambling, but none yet about the world of online casinos. We have to ask: why? Is it because it’s still a relatively new industry, or because there just aren’t enough details about online casinos, because there are so many of them. Take a casino like JackpotCity for example: it’s been around since 1998 and is still continuing today to bring the glitz and glamour of a real-live Vegas casino to the homes of millions of players. Yet we don’t know what goes on in the homes of players that play online and why they choose to play this way instead of going to a land based casino. Could it be that they live in a remote area where there are no land based casinos or simply because they feel more comfortable at home? We might never know because never has there been a movie made about this and, let’s face it, it could make for an interesting story.

The closest a movie came to the world of online gambling was with the 2013 crime thriller, Runner Runner, which focused on online poker, but it was slayed by critics and was said that it only highlighted the dangers of playing poker online, which wasn’t meant to be the case at all. Turning this movie into a true blockbuster would have taken a much better script. Let’s face it, most movies about casinos are not all moonlight and roses, but there are a few that may make more people interested. Here are a few movies about casinos and gambling that could possibly be turned into movies about online gambling:

Ocean’s Eleven

This movie, that was released in 2001 and was a remake of the 1960 film, spawned two sequels. The original movie, Ocean’s Eleven is about Danny Ocean and his eleven accomplices, who plan to rob three casinos in Las Vegas simultaneously. While this movie was all about robbing actual land-based casinos, it could quite easily turn into an online casino heist: think Ocean’s Eleven meets Sneakers (the 1992 hacker movie). In the end, we know the odds are against the player and the house always win, but it could still make for an interesting plot line.

The Hangover

Another movie that spawned 2 sequels. Although not entirely about the world of casinos, it does play off in Vegas, which is the capital of gambling. So what if the bachelors had a party at home and decided to gamble a bit online? It could make for an interesting story as online casinos, like JackpotCity (click here for more info), have loads of games to choose from and there are also slot tournaments that they can enter. Imagine the bachelors enter one of these tournaments and chat to players from all over the world, mistaking it for an online dating site. Just a thought…

National Lampoon’s Vegas Vacation

There’s probably no funnier franchise than the National Lampoon series of movies about the Griswold family. In National Lampoon’s Vegas Vacation, the family goes to Vegas for a fun family vacation. Although online casinos are only for players of 21 years and older, the series could continue with the children out of the house and Clark and Ellen Griswold starting to play online, because they’re too old to drive to a land based casino. Fun times and it will probably make for an interesting and funny plot.

Wild Card

It’s action all the way when a bodyguard from Las Vegas has a gambling problem and gets in trouble with the mob. Ok, so online casinos don’t have a mob or loan sharks – you literally deposit via your credit card or web wallet – but since this is about movies with a twist, it could make for an interesting and action-packed ride if the online mob was after our hero.

Casino

The movie of all movies about the world of casinos. This movie is all about greed, deception, money, power, and murder. Very dark, but twisting this movie into one about the online gaming industry could be quite interesting. Instead of focusing on players, the movie could focus on what happens in the backend of the online casino and what it takes to run such an operation.

While we’re still waiting for an actual movie to be made about online casinos, we can look back and get nostalgic about some of the best movies made about casinos. What is a fact, though, is that online casinos are not as daunting as it may seem. There are a lot of advantages to playing online:

* There are no crowds

* You can play in the comfort of your own home

* Online casinos are extremely safe and secure

* The best online casinos offer 24/7 support

* A variety of banking options makes it easier to deposit and withdraw

And a lot of online casinos, including JackpotCity, now has a mobile version available. So even if you don’t feel like sitting at home in front of your PC, you can simply play on your mobile – wherever you are.

Once you’re hooked on playing at an online casino, you can take a look at some other casino films and you’ll soon realize that playing online is completely different and a lot safer.

The Cooler (2003): a gambling jinx breaks his curse when he falls in love.

Rounders (1998): a reformed gambler must return to help a friend.

Croupier (1998): a writer is hired as a croupier at a casino.

Hard Eight (1996): a professional gambler teaches a protégé the tricks of the trade.

Bugsy (1991): the story of how Bugsy Siegel started Las Vegas.

The Gambler (1974): what happens when you have a gambling problem.

Casino Royale (2006): 007 sets out on a mission at a game of poker.

Ironically, a lot of these movies were made in the 90s, where online casinos started booming in the late 90s, so the movie boom of online casinos might still be coming. But maybe these things only happen in the movies…
